Crime Blotter: Teen Robbed at Knifepoint on Meadow Street

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Jan. 5
: Officers responded to Nassau Boulevard where a tractor trailer struck the overpass. There was no apparent damage to the bridge. The roof of the trailer sustained damage. The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old man from Connecticut, was cited for disregarding bridge clearance signs.

Jan. 8
: At 6:20 p.m., the Garden City police and fire departments responded to the Cherry Valley Apartments to contain and safeguard a hazardous material spill. The spill consisted of 100 gallons of recently delivered home heating oil that spilled into the building’s boiler room. The Nassau County Fire Marshal and the Department of Environmental Conservation also responded to the scene. The heat was turned off to the affected building. Approximately five hours later, the scene was cleared and heat was restored to the building.

Jan. 8
: A resident reports the unauthorized use of his credit card information to purchase items totaling $409 in another state.

Jan. 9
: Officer Reilly located a driver on Franklin Avenue wanted for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on Main Street in Hempstead. The driver, a 36-year-old woman from Hicksville, was subsequently arrested by the Hempstead Police Department for leaving the scene of an accident, DWI (Drugs) and three license suspensions. She was also charged with Leandra’s Law due to the fact that her one year old child was in the vehicle.

Jan. 9
: Officer Sommer stopped a vehicle on Washington Street and Chestnut Street for speeding (50 MPH). The driver, a 28-year-old man from Far Rockaway, was arrested for having 12 driver's license suspensions, unlicensed operation and speeding.

Jan. 9
: Detectives arrested a 56-year-old man from Garden City for leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident earlier in the day on Old Country Road.

Jan. 10
: Witnesses observed two subjects removing two packages delivered by a courier service at a Barnes Lane residence. The subjects are described as 5'10" black men. One of the subjects was wearing dark colored clothing and the other subject was wearing dark colored pants and a light colored shirt.

: An unknown vehicle drove on the lawn of a Weyford Terrace residence damaging the lawn and knocking down a mailbox.

Jan. 10
: Severe weather caused icy road and surface conditions throughout the village resulting in officers responding to 11 auto accidents and eight slip and fall injury cases.

Jan. 10
:  A driver states he was stopped on Franklin Avenue when another vehicle struck and damaged the rear of his vehicle and then left the scene without stopping.

Jan. 11
:  Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction at Sixth Street and Rockaway Avenue.

Jan. 11: Detectives arrested a 45-year-old man from Island Park for criminal sale of marijuana (one ounce) on John Street.

Jan. 11
: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle for aggressive driving violations on Clinton Road and Meadow Street. The driver, a 24-year-old from Mineola, was arrested for DWI (.15 percent blood alcohol content), unsafe turn, two lane violations, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.

Jan. 12
: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle traveling south on Clinton Road at Poplar Street for aggressive driving violations and almost striking another vehicle. Upon an investigation, the driver, a 27-year-old man from Hempstead, was arrested for DWI (.15 percent blood alcohol content) and two unsafe lane usage violations.

Jan. 12
:  A bicycle was reported stolen from a Fifth Street residential garage.

Jan. 12
: Several items from a holiday manger set were stolen from the front yard of a Transverse Road residence.

Jan. 13
: At approximately 3:37 p.m., TD Bank located at 855 Franklin Avenue was robbed. For the full story, click here. This suspect appears to be responsible for a similar incident earlier in the day in Merrick, according to police.

Jan. 13
: Adelphi University Public Safety reports a criminal mischief; a door to a dorm room was found to be damaged by unknown means.

Jan. 13
: A 19-year-old teen from Hempstead states he was walking home westbound on Meadow Street to Meadow Place at approximately 10:30 p.m. when a black man, 6’,2”, wearing a ski mask, grey hoodie and black sweat pants, produced a knife and demanded the victim’s belongings. The victim states that he gave the subject his iPhone, $40 and stereo headphones.

Jan. 13
: Three lawn spot lights were stolen from the property of a Chestnut Street residence.

Jan. 13
: A floodlight was removed from the lawn of a Russell Road residence.
