Crime Blotter: Hempstead Teen Arrested in Brook Street Yard

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 13: A male 53-year-old from Garden City was issued an appearance ticket for setting off fireworks on Cambridge Avenue.

July 24: A locked bicycle left in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue and Eleventh Street was reported stolen.

July 24: An iPhone was reported stolen at the Garden City Golf Club.

July 24: During the investigation of a two-vehicle property damage accident on County Seat Drive, officers cited one of the drivers, a female 46-year-old from Levittown, for driving with a suspended license, suspended registration and uninsured operation.

July 24: Officer Reilly cited a female 53-year-old from Brooklyn for using a handicap parking permit belonging to someone else to park in a handicap space in Parking Field 9W. The permit was also confiscated.

July 25: The Epilepsy Foundation reports the theft of several handicap parking permits that were supposed to arrive by U.S. Mail.

July 25: Officer Russell cited a male 21-year-old from Hempstead for speeding on Stewart Avenue at Tullamore Road. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license.

July 26: A female worker at a Garden City business reports receiving a phone call from a male who stated that her husband was involved in an auto accident with a gang member, is being held hostage, and would be killed unless an unspecified ransom be paid. This was determined to be a scam after finding the husband was not involved in an accident and was at his place of employment.

July 26: Officer Russell stopped a vehicle on Stewart Avenue and Kilburn Road for driving from lane to lane. The driver, a male 26-year-old from West Hempstead, was subsequently arrested for DWI (refused test), driving with a suspended license, unsafe lane usage.

July 26: As the result of an investigation conducted with Esquire Bank Staff, Officer Wehr arrested a male 21-year-old from the Bronx and a female 28-year-old from Brooklyn for attempting to cash two forged checks totaling $3,500 at the bank. Both subjects were charged with possession of forged instruments and attempted grand larceny.

July 27: Loose change and CDs were removed from a vehicle parked at a Prescott Street residence. Other vehicles in the area were also entered with no reported loss.

July 28: A male 50-year-old from Long Beach was arrested by Officer Walsh for the attempted theft of three pairs of designer boots from Sears. He was also charged with similar thefts from the store on July 27 and June 21 as well as possession of alleged crack/cocaine.

July 28: Several articles of clothing valued at $588 were reported stolen from The Island on Seventh Street.

July 29: Garden City officers assisted Nassau County officers with the arrest of a male 18-year-old from Hempstead in the rear yard of a Brook Street residence. The subject had fled the scene after committing a grand larceny at Roosevelt Field Mall.

July 29: Damage was found on the driver’s side rear and front doors to a vehicle parked in Parking Field 7N.

July 30: A BMX bicycle valued at $200 was stolen from the property of a Meadow Street residence.

July 30: The department is investigating an identity theft case where an unknown person is using another person’s credit information without authorization to purchase items at a local drug store.
