Teen Killed in Southern State Crash

A 16-year-old driver was killed early Wednesday morning on the Southern State Parkway after striking a tree on the side of the road.

According to New York State Police, at approximately 12:33 a.m., Nasir Rivera, 16, of Elmont, was operating a 1998 Acura westbound on the Southern State Parkway just west of exit 18 when he drove off the roadway and struck a tree.

Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police Investigating Assault After Shots Fired at Duo 

Nassau County Police are investigating an assault which occurred on Tuesday, April 10 around 9:05 p.m. in Hempstead.

According to detectives, the male victim, 29, and the female victim, 23, were on the corner of Hendrickson Avenue and Fulton Avenue when they were approached by four unknown suspects.  The suspects are described as male blacks in their late teens to early 20s, one wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and one wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. 

The subjects discharged several rounds at the victims from a handgun or handguns, striking the male victim at least five times and the female victim once.  The subjects fled southbound on Hendrickson Avenue.  They were taken to area hospitals and are listed in stable condition at this time.  No further description is available.

Florida Man Arrested for Alleged Police Assault in New Hyde Park

Nassau County Police arrested a Florda man for allegedly assaulting officers from the Third Precinct on Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park.

According to detectives, Joel G. Daguillard, 31, of Miami, FL, was observed by police backing into a handicap parking spot in front of 669 Hillside Ave. on April 15 around 3:26 p.m.

An officer approached the vehicle and saw marijuana on the front seat.

He also saw that the defendants children, ages six and two, who were in the back seat, were not properly secured in their safety seats.

Daguillard was reportedly asked to exit the vehicle and refused. A struggle ensued as the officers placed Daguillard under arrest, with one officer suffering a laceration to his finger.  The officer was taken to an area hospital where he received stitches to treat his injury. The children were left in the custody of their mother. 

Daguillard is charged with second degree assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was arraigned on April 16 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Three Arrested for Armed Robbery in Hempstead

Three men were arrested for robbing a 23-year-old man at gunpoint in Hempstead Sunday morning.

According to detectives, Kelly Baldwin, 32, of Freeport, Marcus Wheeler, 23, of Roosevelt, and Destiny Leonard, 24, of Hempstead, approached the male victim, 23, and his friend, 25, at 1:33 a.m. on April 15 in Hempstead while they were standing in front of the Chase Bank ATM located at 49 North Franklin Street in Hempstead. 

Baldwin allegedly pointed a firearm at the back of the victim's head and demanded money. The two other defendants blocked the sidewalk so the victim and his friend could not leave, according to police. The victim complied, giving Baldwin $20. At this time, Baldwin reportedly took the victims wallet, removed an additional $60 and fled on foot in an unknown direction. 

Wheeler and Leonard fled southbound on North Franklin, where they were stopped and arrested by Hempstead Police, who were flagged down by the victim. Baldwin was arrested after a separate incident with First Precinct Officers which occurred at 4:47 a.m. in Roosevelt.

Baldwin is charged with first degree Robbery and Criminal Use of a Firear, and third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the hospital on Monday, April 16. Wheeler and Leonard are charged with second-degree Robbery and were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, April 15.
