Fire Prevention Day and Open House Oct. 16

The fire department cordially invites all residents, their friends and families to enjoy the afternoon with them.

The Garden City Fire Department will hold its annual fire prevention day and open house Sunday, Oct. 16 at Fire Headquarters on Stewart Avenue. The event begins at 12:30 p.m.

The popular event is held each year in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week. This year’s national theme is “Protect Your Family from Fire.” The open house has something for everyone in the family.

The event will include full dress inspection of the fire department by village officials, followed by an afternoon of firefighting and fire safety demonstrations. The "blood mobile" will be at fire headquarters between noon and 4:30 p.m. A giant inflatable fire truck slide will entertain the younger set while the rock band "Change at Jamaica" will perform.

According to this year’s event coordinator, Captain Neil O’Malley, “It is such a great day. We invite our village residents to come down to our fire station to learn about fire safety, meet our firefighters, view our equipment and enjoy nice refreshments.”

Those attending this event will receive free giveaways, brochures, balloons, plastic fire helmets for the kids, and, of course, complimentary refreshments for all!
