A home in Hempstead collapsed following a possible explosion Wednesday afternoon.

Fire and police personnel are on scene of the Perry Street home. Two families were affected by the incident.

A fire official for Rockville Centre confirmed that their technical team was called in for "mutual aid."

The Red Cross Long Island unit responded to the scene also.

"The Red Cross is presently working with one family (two adults and three children) to provide emergency housing and funds for food and clothing," a statement from the Red Cross read. "A second family (one adult and three children) is currently at a nearby hospital. Red Cross caseworkers will meet with them to provide similar assistance."

just reading Jane Goodall with my son for school and came across this quote of an amazing womanRead More "every individual matters, every individual has a role to play, every individual makes a difference." that is what makes our nation, our village so great everyone has an opinion whether we agree with it or not. It just saddens me to think some may not voice their opinion in the future because of the rather harsh comments which I'm sure were just meant to get a point across rather than be hurtful. Garden City residents are not afraid to get involved, to stand up for what they believe in and I am proud to live here.
