Update: Woman on Drugs Arrested After Fleeing Accident in Hempstead

Garden City police located Janice Lafiandra of Hicksville on Franklin Avenue.

A Hicksville woman on drugs was arrested Thursday afternoon after she collided with another vehicle in Hempstead and continued northbound on Franklin Avenue into Garden City, Nassau County police said.

Janine Lafiandra, 36, was operating a 2013 Mercedes Benz northbound on Main Street in Hempstead when she collided with a 2004 Ford operated by a 66-year-old man heading southbound on Main Street at West Columbia Street, according to police. Lafiandra continued driving, according to police, and was located by Garden City police on Franklin Avenue. Hempstead police officers also responded to the scene.

The incident occurred around noon.

The defendant’s one-year-old son was located in the rear seat of the vehicle and was released to the custody of his grandmother. Lafiandra was taken into custody without incident, police said.

No injuries were reported. The incident closed the northbound lanes of Franklin Avenue, between Seventh Street and Stewart Avenue, for approximately an hour.

Lafiandra was charged with aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), two counts of Driving While Ability Impaired and three counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. She will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
