Village Board Notes: Final Site Plan Approval, Appointments, Solicitations

Seventh Street business to expand; appointments to recreation commission and library board; and door-to-door solicitations approved.

Here's a recap of actions taken at the Dec. 15 village board of trustees meeting regarding solicitiations, board appointments and a final site plan approval:

  • Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of John Schulz of Wyatt Road to the Garden City Public Library board of trustees (East) for a five-year term commencing Jan. 1, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2016.
  • Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Kenneth Moody of Poplar Street to the Board of Commissioners of Cultural and Recreational Affairs to fill the term of Andrew deLannoy, who resigned effective Dec. 21, 2011 for a term to expire April 7, 2014.
  • The board also approved a request from Jason Kulczyk, staff director, Citizens Campaign for the Environment, headquartered in Farmingdale, to solicit in the village Jan. 7-20 between 4-8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Invited call backs only are permitted between the hours of 8-9 p.m. Trustees Brian Daughney, Dennis Donnelly, Andrew Cavanaugh, Nick Episcopia, Laurence Quinn and John DeMaro voted yes, mayor Don Brudie abstained and trustee John Watras voted against the request, stating there's too many solicitations in Garden City. "Enough is enough," he said.
  • Trustees unanimously gave final site plan approval for a one-story addition for retail use at 175 Seventh Street, current site of Garden City Salon & Spa. According to building superintendent Mike Filippon, this is a small addition at the very back of the building to 'square it off' and add some space to the last store." He added, "From what we were told there may be some shifting around of stores, which led to this decision in the first place."
