Adelphi’s Newest Residence Hall: New Hall B

New environmentally friendly building accommodates approximately 170 students and is complete with 65 dorm rooms.

New Hall B, which opened for resident students in the fall 2011 semester, is running smoothly, according to officials.

Before the emergence of New Hall B, Adelphi only had six residence halls gracing the campus, along with a huge open lawn that was being put to no use.

Promotion for the new residence hall started up in 2008; construction began in 2009 and the hall opened two years later.

“New Hall B accommodates approximately 170 students, and is complete with 65 dorm rooms,” said New Hall B resident hall director Matthew Jasinski.

New Hall B is one of the most environmentally friendly buildings on campus.

“The building has an environmentally sensitive design and its heating and cooling systems are powered by geothermal technology,” said Jasinski. “Also, like New Hall A, each room has a semi-private bathroom, and comes complete with a laundry room and fully equipped lounge on each floor.”

Each room in New Hall B is equipped with an air-conditioning system, which is not a part of most residence halls. However, living in New Hall B doesn’t come cheap. It costs $9,930 to live in a triple and $8,420 to live in a regular double.

“I love working and living in New B,” said Adelphi senior and New Hall B resident assistant Angelo Belfiore. “It’s a great hall to work in because there is a very diverse group of students. We’re mostly an upper-class building but we have all different types of students from freshman to athletes here."

“Living in another hall isn’t even an option for me,” said junior David Cherman. “The staff is great and I love the convenience of having a bathroom in my room, and compared to living in Waldo Hall I like it here so much better.”

With the success of New Hall B, when will Adelphi see another residence hall?

“Since New Hall B is brand new and the university is beginning projects for a new academic building, I don’t see another dorm coming that soon,” said Jasinski.

Belfiore added, “With the demand for housing constantly increasing, it wouldn’t be completely impossible to see another residence hall within the next ten years.”
