Parent Coffee Program- Supporting Your Young Child in the Aftermath of Natural Disasters

About the Program: In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, parents and their young children have been left with many thoughts, feelings and questions. Reactions to these tragedies vary greatly and there are many ways to support young children during these times. This presentation will look at ways in which children 5 years and under react after traumatic events and ways for parents to understand and appropriately respond to these varying reactions.

About the Presenter: Michelle Green, LMSW, is the Clinical Coordinator of the Adelphi University Institute for Parenting. She currently coordinates all of the clinical cases at the Institute while providing direct psychological services to 0-4 year olds and their parents through the use of video guidance and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). Ms. Green teaches, trains, and supervises clinicians and students in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health and Child-Parent Psychotherapy. She also has extensive training in working with very young children who have experienced trauma.

Program Fee: $10 per adult, free child care with advance registration.
