Report: GCHS Among Nation's Top 500

Garden City ranks 119th in U.S., 22nd in New York.

Garden City High School has been ranked among the top 500 high schools in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report's latest rankings.

Of the top 500 schools named, GCHS ranks 22nd in New York State and 119th in the country, according to the report.

GCHS made a 73.1 college readiness ranking and earned high marks in Regents and AP exam scores. According to the report, students are 100 percent proficient in English and 98 percent proficient in math. The scores are comparable with the district's overall English and math proficiencies. Approximately 82 percent of Garden City students participated in AP Exams, with 86 percent of those students passing and taking an average of 4.8 tests in their high school careers.

The study looked at more than 19,400 public high schools, and takes into account such factors as participation rate in Advanced Placement courses and exams. In addition to test scores, the list also provides a breakdown of minority enrollment, the percentage of economically disadvantaged students enrolled, and the number of full-time teachers at the school.
