Lady Trojans Win Seventh Straight State Lax Title

Big second half propels Garden City to 13th overall state title.

Alexandra Bruno, Catherine Dickinson and Catherine McTiernan scored all of Garden City's goals Saturday afternoon as the Lady Trojans lacrosse team defeated Canandaigua Academy 13-8 to collect its seventh consecutive New York State Class B title.

Dickinson finished with five goals and one assist, while McTiernan finished with two goals and one assist at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. Bruno scored a game-high six goals and dished out two assists as she was named the tournament MVP.

Garden City (17-5) led 6-4 late in the first half, but Canandaigua (18-4) scored two goals in the final 29 seconds, including one with 2.3 seconds remaining, to tie the game at 6-6.

The Lady Trojans fired on all cylinders in the second half as Dickinson and McTiernan helped their team jump out to a quick two-goal lead. Bruno kept the pace with Canandaigua and Garden City scored the final four goals of the game.

Megan McDonald made four saves in goal for Garden City.

The win gives the Lady Trojans their 13th overall state title in 15 appearances.
