'Spirit of Village Mantra Epitomized' at Belmont Festival

Even without the addition of out-of-towners normally attending Garden City's Belmont Festival, the event was touted a 'great success.'

While the festival normally runs concurrently with the Belmont Stakes, Tropical Storm Andrea forced the rescheduling  of the 16th annual event.

"Our residents filled the street the five bands were outstanding, poster contest received very well (endearing)," said John Wilton, chairman of the Merchant Professional Retailers Group.

Food establishments were humming, face painting, Broadway Bound dancers were a standing ovation success, Wilton said.

As for the Wing Off, Prost Grill & Garten was chosen as winner, Hurricane Wings came in second place. 

Vendors Coke bounce and Steiffel "fastest shot"provided entertainment.

"Great turn out of parents and children," Wilton said. "It showed spirit of village the mantra 'Hospitality Garden City Style' was epitomized last night."
