Devonshire Home Design Opens on Franklin

Garden City's new one-stop design source.

Devonshire Home Design is a new and exciting home furnishing resource conveniently located on Franklin Avenue. A one-stop-shopping source for all your design needs, Devonshire offers interior design services as well as a retail shop specializing in home furnishings, decorative accessories, artwork, lighting, fabrics and unique giftware.

Proprietor and interior designer Kurt Ericsson describes Devonshire Home Design as a dream and ultimate goal.

"Despite the current economic climate, all current factors pointed me in this direction," shared Ericsson. "The encouragement and support of family and friends, my previous experience and relationships as well as a great space in Garden City have made my goal of opening my own design/retail business possible."

Ericsson brings to Garden City a 20-year career in interior design. His professional experience ranges from interior design and home furnishings to designing women's fashion accessories such as scarves and wraps.

"The focus in the fashion world is to keep up with the trends and look like everyone else," shared Ericsson. "What I love about home design is that the goal is to be unique. A home is personal and no one wants their home to look like anyone else's."

As much as he enjoyed designing fashion accessories, Ericsson has returned to his roots with his new design center. The shop is traditional in style with a fresh approach. However, he designs around his clients' needs first and foremost.

It is with this unique eye that he has developed a dazzling array of beautifully appointed displays throughout the store. If you need to decorate an entire home, one room or just looking for that perfect side table all your design needs can be met here. Ericsson also welcomes commercial design projects.

"I listen to what aesthetic the client is seeking and keep in mind the type of home I'm designing for when working on a project," said Ericsson.

"He has exquisite taste, he is great with fabric," says Amy DePalma, a colleague of Ericsson's. "He's also a terrific and honest designer."

Ericsson, who was previously showroom manager/buyer at Windham House on the North Shore of Long Island, prides himself on finding affordable accessories for the home. The shop is brimming with decorative accessories such as needlepoint pillows, dishware, prints, frames, mirrors, sconces, clocks and more.

Garden City resident Mary Jo McLoughlin walked into the shop with prints she just purchased for her home in Quogue. Pleased with the prints, she wanted to change the frame and mattes. Ericsson was on the job with frame suggestions in a few minutes. The mattes were changed to a crisp white with navy border and the frame went from traditional to a more casual look.

"Kurt is delightful, I just love this new place," said McLoughlin. "I know Kurt from his former job. All I have to do is tell him what I'm looking for and it's done."

Ericsson prides himself on maintaining outstanding customer service and believes in building strong relationships. For further information, contact the shop at 516-280-6888 or visit at 739 Franklin Avenue.
