Crime Blotter: Business Burglary, Graffiti, Stolen Flushometers

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

June 5: Officers responded to a vehicle crash on Fifteenth Street and Suffolk Lane after it was determined that a female 56-year-old from Garden City was travelling west on Fifteenth Street when she suddenly made an erratic U-turn causing her vehicle to enter the property of a Suffolk Lane residence striking bushes and a retainer wall of the residence. There were children playing in the rear yard on a trampoline at the time of the accident. There were no injuries reported. The driver was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol and reckless driving.

June 5: A joint investigation between the Garden City Police Department and the Adelphi University Public Safety Department resulted in the arrest of a male 24-year-old from Astoria for two counts of burglary, possession of a weapon (brass Knuckles) and burglary tools. The subject had entered two different buildings on the campus and removed four flushometers. Further investigation revealed that this subject may be responsible for numerous similar thefts on college campuses throughout Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties.

June 5: Officer Buonaiuto was conducting traffic enforcement on Stewart Avenue when he cited a male 35-year-old from Sayville for speeding at Wellington Avenue (45 mph), driving with three license suspensions and uninsured operation. The subject’s vehicle was also impounded. Another operator was cited for speeding in a school zone (70 mph in a 20-mph zone) in front of Garden City Middle School.

June 6: Garden City detectives arrested a male 16-year-old from Garden City for damaging the property of another family member at their residence.

June 7All Island Dermatology located at 54 New Hyde Park Road was entered on June 6 and 7 through a rear window. In both cases, money was stolen.

June 7: A criminal mischief was reported at Orchid restaurant on Franklin Avenue where the rear door window was found damaged.

June 8: Officer Oswald stopped a male 41-year-old from Westbury for aggressive driving on Washington Avenue. Upon an investigation, the driver was arrested for DWI (.09 percent blood alcohol content), driving with a suspended license, three unsafe turn/lane violations and uninsured operation.

June 9: Light fixtures were found damaged on the properties of two Chestnut Street residences and one Locust Street residence. A fence to another Chestnut Street residence was found damaged.

June 9: A shopper at Lord & Taylor reports the theft of her wallet containing credit cards and money from her pocketbook.

June 9: A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Stewart Avenue Parking Field. 

June 10: Graffiti was found on fences on the property of two residences on Old Country Road.

June 10: A large piece of cement was thrown at a vehicle parked on Poplar Street damaging the rear windshield and trunk. 

June 10: Officers conducted a commercial vehicle inspection on New Hyde Park Road: 12 trucks were inspected, four were placed out of service and 65 tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations, including three defective brake violations and a defective axle violation.

June 11: A wallet was removed from a vehicle parked at a Poplar Street residence.

June 11: A vehicle was reported stolen from a Roxbury Road residence. 

June 11: A lamp post on the property of a Fifth Street residence was found damaged.

June 11: A Stop sign was found damaged at the intersection of Prospect Street and Pine Street.
