Crime Blotter: GC Pizza Break-In, Car on the Tracks, Struck Overpass

A look at this week's alleged crimes, reported by the Garden City Police Department.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Garden City Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

May 26: Garden City and MTA officers responded for a report of a car on the railroad tracks east of New Hyde Park Road. The driver of the auto, a female 26-year-old from New Hyde Park, was traveling south on New Hyde Park Road before she mistakenly made a left turn onto the railroad tracks. The officers at the scene immediately safeguarded and secured the scene by stopping all railroad traffic. The driver was subsequently arrested for DWI (.08 percent blood alcohol content) and obstructing a railroad crossing.

May 29: Officers responded to Stewart Avenue and Roxbury Road where a motorcyclist traveling east collided with a vehicle stopped for a red traffic light. The motorcyclist, a male 23-year-old from Queens, was transported to Winthrop Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

May 29: Officers responded to the rear of the Pay Half Store for two reports of a suspicious briefcase in a trash can. The scene was safeguarded by officers. Nassau County Bomb Squad Officers responded to the scene, removed the briefcase and deemed it to be safe and non-threatening.

May 29: Officer Sommer stopped a vehicle on Clinton Road for defective brake lights. The driver, a male 38-year-old from Manhasset, was cited for improper license plates, unregistered auto, unlicensed operator and uninspected auto. The vehicle was impounded.

May 30: A cell phone was reported lost or stolen in the vicinity of Oxford Blvd.

May 31: Clothing was removed from a vehicle parked on Wellington Road.

May 31: Officer Punch stopped a vehicle for speeding (50 MPH in a 30-mph zone) on Franklin Avenue and Fourth Street. The driver, a male 54-year-old from Hempstead, was arrested for eight open driver's license violations, unlicensed operation, uninsured operation and speeding.

May 31: Officers conducted a seatbelt enforcement checkpoint on Nassau Boulevard as part of the New York State Buckle Up NY Initiative. Results: 16 seatbelt violations and 19 miscellaneous traffic violations.

June 1: Officer Graber arrested a female 22-year-old from North Bellmore and charged her with grand larceny for the theft of more than $1,100 in merchandise from Lord & Taylor.

June 2: Outside lamp posts were found damaged at residences located on Garden Street, Boylston Street, Chestnut Street and Tremont Street.

June 2: Officers responded to Hilton Avenue and Sixth Street for a report of a traffic light not operating in all directions.

June 2: Officer Roumeliotis arrested a female 36-year-old from Rosedale for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on May 26 where the subject struck a parked vehicle on Raymond Court and left the scene without stopping.

June 2: Officer Oswald stopped a vehicle on Clinton Road for unsafe operation. The subject was arrested for DWI-Impaired (.06 percent blood alcohol content) and two unsafe lane violations, unlicensed operation and not wearing a seatbelt.

June 2: A cell phone was reported lost or stolen in the vicinity of Arthur Street.

June 3: Garden City Pizza on Franklin Avenue was entered during the overnight hours and money was removed from a register. The window to the premise’s rear door was found broken.

June 3: A bus traveling north struck the Cherry Valley Avenue train overpass. The bus had no passengers at the time of the incident. The driver, a male 41-year-old from Queens, was cited for disregarding a bridge clearance sign. The top of the bus was damaged as a result of the collision.

June 4: Officer Reilly arrested a female 28-year-old from Valley Stream for the shoplifting of a shirt from Lord & Taylor. The subject was also charged with assault after it was determined that the subject grabbed and pushed away the store security officer who was attempting to arrest her, causing the security officer to receive bruises and contusions to her arms.

June 4: Officer Sansone stopped a vehicle on Clinton Road by Brook Street for expired registration and inspection stickers. Upon an investigation, the driver, a female 47-year-old from Hempstead, was arrested for a suspended license due to a previous DWI offense, having five additional license suspensions, suspended registration, uninspected auto, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.
